Aga Khan School, Osh offers internship programme for new teachers
The Aga Khan School, Osh Internship Programme for Young Professionals is a programme the Aga Khan School (AKS), Osh is offering for those interested in becoming teachers to learn basic pedagogical concepts, provisions and the foundations of teaching.
Since 1 September, five participants of the programme, or interns, have been receiving training from a consultant for AKS, Osh’s English department, William Martin, and were provided with mentors who are experienced teachers at the school. During the programme, which will end at the end of May 2023, the interns will learn how to conduct lessons, improve their knowledge of subjects taught at the school, such as Russian, chemistry, mathematics and English, and acquire new teaching strategies. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the teachers and learn how to plan lessons for some classes at AKS, Osh. Additionally, the programme allows the interns to adapt to AKS, Osh and its environment as they will transition from interns to teachers at the school.
“This programme allows young professionals to be fully involved in the educational process and better adapt to the students and the teaching process, while also working on lesson planning, reports and more, and interacting with parents,” said Deputy Director for Academic Affairs Gulzina Myrzaibraimova. “This is an opportunity for self-development, while also being guided by our experienced teachers in conducting lessons. In turn, working with young professionals, we learn more about the difficulties that a young and novice teacher can have. We are discussing ways to solve these problems together."
Marie Rashenko, an intern for the Russian department at AKS, Osh, said she has found the programme engaging and beneficial for their professional development.
"This is an excellent programme, which has opened a door for me and provided me with professional development opportunities and innovative ways to plan lessons,” Marie said.
AKS, Osh is inviting those interested in becoming teachers and qualified teachers to collaborate on the internship programme. For more information, please email munara.ryskulova@akdn.org.
